Hey everybody! It's Johnia Williams, better known as Gigii. I represent the fabulous Virgin Islands, where I was born and raised, then at age 13 I relocated to Florida and lived there for six years. You could say that I have a mixture of States and Island Flava! I moved back home to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands 2 years ago and I've been here ever since. My main goal is to be a world changer one life at a time. I do so by writing poetry, performing, being involved and trying to better the community in various ways. This past April I was a contestant in the Caribbean Got Talent Audition Competition. I was the finalist/runner up. The British Virgin Islands (BVI) Music Fest will be held over Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-27) and will feature a wide range of musical stars.

For the first time in several years, the much-anticipated festival will be moving back to the sandy white beaches of Cane Garden Bay, and bringing with it some exciting changes and an array of big-name performers.

Grammy Award-winning R&B singer Estelle will headline the show, along with reggae group Third World Band and the classic group Forever Motown. Local performers will round out the lineup of artists for the three days and nights of music, food, dancing, and entertainment. XFactor Winner Melanie Amaro will be performing.

The festival will feature soca and calypso on Friday night, reggae and hip hop on Saturday, and R&B and soul on Sunday. Jazz and fungi music also will be highlighted on side stages, as well as an offering of kids’ activities, food, parties, and all-around good times in an ideal island setting.

After 22 years, Lance Armstrong is returning to the island of St. Croix to compete in a triathlon. He'll be competing at Ironman 70.3 St. Croix on May 6th, adding another event to his 2012 schedule as he seeks qualification for the Ironman World Championship this October. Kalalloo's Caribbean Sports Channel will be covering this sports event May 06th. Lance Armstrong has won the Tour de France 7 times. Special slow cooked -with-love meal for mom and family ...

start with a nice cocktail ...

Coconut Rum Cooler
2 oz Coconut Rum (Cruzan)
2 oz Pineapple juice
2 oz Cranberry juice

shake everything with ice and strain into a cocktail or martini glass -

SLow braised Dark & Stormy Beef with a Rum, Ginger and Mango glaze
over Okra and Tomato Rice

Secret Rub
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon brown sugar

Brisket
1 x 4 - 5 pound trimmed flat-cut brisket with about 1/3" top layer of fat
2 tablespoons oil
3/4 cup chopped onion
3 garlic cloves, smashed
12 oz fresh , pounded ginger ( whole )
4 cups beef broth
1 12-ounce bottle Guinness Stout
3/4 cup rum
1/4 cup (packed) light brown sugar
6 large sprigs thyme
3 celery stalks, chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped

Glaze
1 cup chopped fresh or frozen mango
1/4 cup Cruzan dark rum
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Beef
Rub brisket all over with spice rub. Cover and chill for at least 2 hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 325°. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large wide pot over high heat. Add brisket, fat side down. Cook undisturbed until well browned, 5–6 minutes. Turn brisket over and cook until browned, about 3 minutes. Using tongs, transfer to a plate. Reduce heat to medium and add remaining 1 tablespoon oil. Add onion and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onion is slightly golden, about 5 minutes. Add broth and all remaining ingredients. Bring liquid to a simmer. Return brisket to pot. Cover and transfer to oven.
Braise until brisket is very tender to the touch but still holds its shape, about 4 1/2 hours. Using a large spatula, transfer brisket, fat side up, to a large plate. Strain braising liquid into a large bowl. Return liquid to pot, bring to a simmer, and cook until reduced to 2 cups, about 15 minutes. Score fat side of brisket by cutting a cross-hatch pattern of 1/4"-deep slits spaced 1/2" apart. Return brisket, fat side up, to pot with reduced braising liquid.

Glaze
Transfer 1/4 cup braising liquid to a blender. Add mango and rum and blend / puree until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
Preheat broiler. Spread 3–4 tablespoons glaze on top of brisket with the back of a spoon. Broil brisket in pot until browned and glazed, watching carefully to prevent burning, 4–5 minutes.
Transfer brisket to a cutting board. Slice against the grain and transfer to a large platter. Ladle braising liquid over. Drizzle remaining glaze on top.

Okra & Tomato Rice
1 1/2 pound fresh or frozen okra
1 can (28 To 38 ounce size) Canned tomatoes
8 cloves finely chopped garlic
1 Yellow onion (preferably Vidalia) chopped
3 bay leaves
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1/8 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dry oregano
salt and pepper, to taste
Tabasco, to taste

DIRECTIONS:
Saute the okra, onions and garlic in a little water, stock or courtboullion until the okra begins to lose its stickiness and the onions are nice and translucent. Add the canned tomatoes (juice and all) squashing the tomatoes themselves with your hands or other device.
Add all remaining spices and let simmer 1/2 hour (or a little more if you want it more done). Serve over the rice

Sherry Winston has performed in many concert halls throughout the U.S. including Carnegie Hall, Constitution Hall, Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center. Sherry is a musician, composer and businesswoman. Sherry had the honor of performing for two sitting presidents. For President and Mrs. Clinton during their last holiday party at the White House, and for former President George H.W. Bush at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC. Sherry has been featured in The New York Times, Ebony, Black Enterprise, Essence and More Magazines. Sherry has been a featured guest on the Today Show, "Emeril Live," and has co-hosted and performed on 8 shows for Bet TV.

Sherry has released 5 CD's with her first "Do It For Love," going to #1 on BRE and the Black Excellence Charts. Sherry’s third CD "Love Is…" won the WBLS "Quiet Storm" award and reached top 10 at "Radio and Records," an industry tip sheet.

Sherry's 4th CD, "Life is Love & Love is You," features the late Grover Washington, Jr., saxophonist, Najee, guitarist, Norman Brown, and the late award-winning vocalist, Jon Lucien. Bobby Lyle is also featured with his wonderfully powerful keyboard solo. That alone is worth the price of the CD.

As a performer Sherry has opened for Sinbad, Gerald Albright, Ramsey Lewis, Chaka Kahn, "Pieces of a Dream," Peabo Bryson, Regina Belle, Grover Washington, Jr., Diane Reeves, Nelson Rangel, Ronnie Laws and many others.
